Few top EC posts held by EU-10

ACCORDING to European Commission data released on October 31, there are few people from the EU-10 in middle to highly paid manage-ment positions, the TASR news agency reported. However, the EC has nearly met its EC-10 quote in lower paid positions.

Among the new member states with the most highlypaid positions are Hungary and the Czech Republic, with two deputy general directors each. Cyprus and Slovenia have one representative in an equivalent position.

Slovak Katarína Mathernová is head of the EC General Headquarters for Regional Policy. Slovakia has a right to two positions at this level.

The EC will employ 3,441 people from new member states by 2010. Most of the EU-10 representatives employed there work as translators and interpreters.
