Rapid growth in advertising in 2004

REAL expenditures on advertising in all types of media reached approximately 6.35 billion (€160 million) in 2004. Spending on public relations activities represented almost Sk3.27 billion (€80 million).

REAL expenditures on advertising in all types of media reached approximately 6.35 billion (€160 million) in 2004. Spending on public relations activities represented almost Sk3.27 billion (€80 million). Overall expenditures on advertising and PR, not taking into account various barters and bonuses, increased by 24 percent in 2004 compared with 2003.

The value of advertisements placed in all the media in 2004 was Sk23.89 billion (€620 million) which is a year-on-year increase of 29.8 percent. This is the most dynamic growth for seven years.

Television stations were the main engine of growth in the advertising market in Slovakia in 2004. The country's four main channels collected Sk3 billion (€80 million) worth of incomes from advertising.

Radio stations were also successful. Their ad incomes grew by 28 percent to Sk500 million (€12.9 million).

Spending on advertising in print media increased by 10 to 25 percent in 2004. Outdoor' advertising reached Sk680 million (€17.5 million) and year-on-year grew by more than 25 percent.

Analysts expect only a mild 4 to 6 percent increase in expenditures on advertising in 2005.
