U.S. Steel invested $605 million since coming to Košice

FIVE years since taking over the former VSŽ steel mill, U.S. Steel Košice has invested $605 million (Sk20 billion) of the $700 million it promised to invest in the factory over the course of 10 years, the Hospodárske noviny wrote.

Employment remains at 16,000, and around 4.5 million tonnes of steel is produced annually at the plant, said USSK president David Lohr.

The company's most recent investment is a $160 million hot-dip galvanizing line for producing high-quality steel for the automotive industry.

Of the total investments, $200 million went to environmental protection and ecological projects.
