FORMER defence minister František Kašický confirmed to the SITA newswire on April 29 that he has been appointed Slovakia's new ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as of May 5.

He replaces Igor Slobodník, who had held the post for over four years.

Kašický resigned as defence minister on January 30 after his ministry was found to have issued several inflated tenders for cleaning services.

He said that he will use his ambassadorship to make Slovakia more visible, to win the country other posts, and to obtain contributions.
