Western Slovakia Bratislava DANCE: FLAMENCO dancer María Serrano from Sevilla will presents her passionate dancing art as part of the Iberica festival of Iberian cultures in Bratislava on August 22. The dancer has previously peformed her latest dance project FlamenTango in Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other countries. Serrano's performance is the highlight of the fifth year of the Iberica festival, which will perform in Bratislava after stops in the Czech towns of Brno and Boskovice. The Slovak flamenco group Los Remedios will open the evening in the PKO (Culture and Leisure Park) at Nábrežie L Svobodu 3 at 20:00. Visitors who arrive early can attend workshops and demonstrations of flamenco, Argentinean tango, and flamenco guitar led by prominent artists, including Alvaro Vargas from Columbia and Eduardo Trassiera from Spain. Liptovský Mikuláš
EXHIBITION: THE PETER Michal Bohúň Gallery in Liptovský Mikuláš hosts an exhibition of works by contemporary Slovak artist Otis Laubert. Crumbs from Knulp’s Bag, as the show is called, displays banal, everyday items arranged in unusual juxtapositions. For example, a work called Beautiful Also After the Death (in the picture), consists of the skeleton of a dog completely covered with blue corals.Four Musical Meals depicts a stove, on which plates have been replaced with LPs. Laubert collects what some people might call junk and infuses it with new life and significance. Laubert is a poet who creates a world in which scraps and castoff things become poems. The exhibition, which lasts until September 21, is open daily except Monday from 10:00 to 17:00. The gallery is at Tranovského 3. For more information, call 044/5514-032
