ON SEPTEMBER 18, the CEO of ESET spol. s r.o., Miroslav Trnka, was awarded IT Personality of the Year 2008. In particular, the judges appreciated his contribution to the technological development of the society, the IT industry in Slovakia, and his personal engagement in the sphere of information security. The award was given by an informal association of Slovak journalists and members of professional associations in the sphere of information technologies and telecommunications, the SITA newswire reported.
The award for IT Company of the Year was won by Siemens Group IT Solutions and Services. The judges took into account their long-term creation of added value in the IT industry in Slovakia.
The winner of the category IT Project of the Year was a project to create a free-of-charge cadastral internet portal. The commission praised the contribution of the project for citizens, the service’s popularity, and the fact that it was one of the first e-services for the public, which in this case contributed, among other things, to an increase in the legal security of property owners. The commission also praised the improvement of the quality of the data in the cadastral database.
The prestigious prizes are now in their eighth year. Their purpose is to recognise expert and managerial efforts by individuals and companies in information technologies and telecommunications and to applaud the most important projects implemented in that year. The event at which the awards were presented, IT Gala, part of the IT Summit conference, was organised by the IT Association of Slovakia (ITAS), PC Revue magazine, and Infoware.
