THE FIRST round of Slovakia’s next presidential election will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2009. The speaker of parliament, Pavol Paška, announced the date on January 8, the TASR newswire reported.
A second round of voting, required if no candidate receives the votes of more than half of all eligible voters, would be held on April 4.
The winner will take the oath of office before parliament on June 15. Ten candidates are expected to run.
