ELECTION: After more than 50 percent of the votes counted, Gašparovič leads

After tabulating the votes from 3,156 of the 5,919 election precincts, incumbent Ivan Gašparovič leads with 56.45 percent of the votes while Iveta Radičová received the support of 43.55 percent of the voters, according to preliminary results released by the Slovak Statistics Office. The Statistics Office is responsible for tabulating the results of the presidential election.

After tabulating the votes from 3,156 of the 5,919 election precincts, incumbent Ivan Gašparovič leads with 56.45 percent of the votes while Iveta Radičová received the support of 43.55 percent of the voters, according to preliminary results released by the Slovak Statistics Office. The preliminary results show the turnout of the electorate to be at 50.80 percent, the Statistics Office said, according to news wire TASR.
