The success-story of EDF bringing know-how to join experience and tradition of SSE in Slovakia.
The French company Electricite de France (EDF) has been a strategic partner of Stredoslovenská Energetika (SSE) for seven years. During the privatization of the electricity market of Slovakia, EDF International acquired a 49%-share of SSE and set a foundation stone with this for a successful and reliable partnership on the Slovak energy market. The alliance of SSE´s experience of 85 years as electricity supplier in Slovakia and the knowledge of EDF as one of the biggest international electricity companies in the world, counts for the future too, where it foresees security for an excellent and customer-oriented cooperation.
EDF worldwide – EDF in Slovakia
EDF Group, which is active in 27 countries all over the world, is a leader in the European market for electricity, has been around for more than 50 years, employs 160.000 people and generates annual turnovers of 65 billion Euro.. The knowhow brought by EDF to SSE significantly strengthened the position of the company and assured its full functionality in all activity indicators. Not least among them are those directly linked to the distribution and sale of electricity. The investment by EDF in SSE also included the creation of the Project for Competitiveness and Integration of SSE into EDF (PCI). PCI defined priority actions related to increasing the profitability of the SSE business and to a better approach towards customers.
With more than 700.000 clients and a total sale of more than 6 TWh/ year, SSE is one of the biggest energy supplier in Slovakia. By knowing that only a clear view and knowledge of market environment can bring real bright thoughts, and being fully aware of the fact that only a reliable distribution of the energy generates favorable conditions for economic and industrial development in the whole region, SSE is a first mover on the Slovak market for superior quality services for a reasonable price.
SSE with EDF is crossing the borders of its region and of its traditional activities
Towards vertical integration SSE is developing further its investment projects to build new energy sources.
Henceforth it is promoting the use of the most modern technologies with the highest efficiency. In 2008 SSE began construction of a 45 MW gas turbine in Panické Dravce, in Lučenec District. This highly flexible source should be commissioned by the end of 2009 and should help to balance Slovakia’s electrical energy deficit, particularly during periods of maximum consumption. SSE has also actively participated in the search for an optimal solution to the modernization and ecological generation of electricity at the thermal power plants in its own region. By these and many other activities SSE is illustrating that it cares sincerely about the environment and about satisfying its customers, and is endeavoring to contribute towards the preservation of a rational price level for electrical energy in Slovakia.
By joining the EDF Group, the company crossed geographical borders. By launching its electricity generation project, it intends to cross the borders of its traditional core business and actively contribute to the stability of the power grid.
Serving the customers
Concerning customer care, SSE has set out new quality standards in the Slovak market for individual attendance. This individual approach allows the company to provide quality customer care, identify each customer’s individual needs and to conduct business relations at a high level. Building the stability of the company and creating higher added value is not only a business strategy for the biggest customers but also for small businesses and households. For this reason in 2008 SSE carried out changes in its marketing to these customer segments, to achieve a better overview of the needs of the customers what would allow directing correctly the development of the products in order to increase their added value.
The electronic WebSSErvis service has been introduced in order to allow the customers quick and convenient access to information about consumption, payments, invoices and to expand their opportunities to make inquiries. The BusineSSEcode service has been introduced for the mid-market segment in order to simplify the dispatching of telephone requests. Call centre and Customer Centers has been serving thousands of customers addressing their mails , e-mails and telephone requirements. By this, the customer satisfaction is one of the companies main driver. The company website has been completed, with information and practical advice about energy saving in households, including the interactive web application “Virtual household”.
As part of the EDF group, SSE is also bringing new ideas and new technologies, based on the international experiences to its customers in Slovakia, for example to save energy together. The products are oriented on effective use of electricity and one of the top goals of the company is to support energy efficiency technologies. For this, SSE started recently the successful „we save energy together“ campaign, where several customers are joining.
Corporate social responsibility
Concerning support for the region in which SSE acts, every year it supports selected areas of activities that create values and contribute to promoting the Central Slovakia region. In its strategy it focuses on healthcare, charity, sports, education and culture with one main driver – all respecting environment. Support in 2008 was flowing to e.g.: Občianske združenie Chránené dielne (Chránené dielne Civic Association), Volejbalový klub mládeže Žilina
(Žilina Youth Volleyball Club), the illumination of Budatín castle, Športový klub telesne postihnutých (Sports Club for the Disabled) in Bytča and others. Stredoslovenská energetika, a. s., is one of partners of the EkoTop film festival, at which films with sustainable development themes are presented every year.
SSE contributes to the achievement of defined objectives by means of its own capacities, and in particular by means of its loyal employees. One of the key indicators for companies belonging to the EDF family is also their investment in their own employees. That is why the priority of SSE is the education of its employees and a deeply rooted pro-family policy. Thus, in the company culture, terms such as pride of belonging to the company and to the whole, diverse EDF Group and “group spirit” are the ones with the very significant messages in themselves.
