SLOVAKIA’s foreign trade account ended with a moderate monthly deficit of €6.3 million for June 2009. The trade balance returned to a deficit after four months of surplus, the TASR newswire wrote, citing data from the Slovak Statistics Office.
While the volume of aggregate foreign trade shrank again in June, total exports from Slovakia amounted to €3.228 billion, a decrease of 25.7 percent compared with June 2008.
Total imports decreased by 26.7 percent year-on-year to €3.235 billion.
During the first half of 2009 Slovakia had a foreign trade surplus of €294.7 million, compared to a deficit of €198.4 million in the first half of 2008.
From January to June 2009 Slovakia’s exports decreased by 28.4 percent year-on-year to €18.468 billion while imports decreased even more, down 30.1 percent to €18.174 billion, the Statistics Office reported.
