Foreign trade balance goes into deficit

While the volume of aggregate foreign trade shrank again in June, total exports from Slovakia amounted to €3.228 billion, a decrease of 25.7 percent compared with June 2008.

Total imports decreased by 26.7 percent year-on-year to €3.235 billion.

During the first half of 2009 Slovakia had a foreign trade surplus of €294.7 million, compared to a deficit of €198.4 million in the first half of 2008.

From January to June 2009 Slovakia’s exports decreased by 28.4 percent year-on-year to €18.468 billion while imports decreased even more, down 30.1 percent to €18.174 billion, the Statistics Office reported.
