FOR THE first time ever, Slovakia will have the honour of hosting Leonard Cohen, famous Canadian singer-songwriter and poet. The 74-year-old charismatic artist, who will arrive in Bratislava on August 28 within his current world tour, entered the music scene almost 50 years ago and soon became one of the most influential musicians both in Canada across the world. His songs often deal with complex and thought-provoking topics such as power, religion, sex and spirituality. Cohen’s appearance is even more unique because he returned to a live stage only in 2008, after a 15 year absence. The concert will be held at the Incheba Expo Arena at Viedenská cesta 3-7, starting at 20:00. Tickets cost between €50 and €70. For more information, visit www.vivien.sk.

A LEGENDARY figure of pop-rock, 58-year-old English singer Chris Norman, will be visiting Lučenec and Košice on August 28 and 29 respectively. Norman is best known as a member of Smokie, a Bradford-based British rock band which hit the charts around Europe in the 1970s with Living Next Door to Alice, a single that has remained their most popular release. In the late 1980s, Norman decided to leave Smokie and concentrate on a solo career which took off with his famous song Midnight Lady. He will offer the Slovak audience a mixture of his most successful hits and his latest pieces. The Lučenec concert will take place at the Winter Sports Hall at Športová 1, while the Košice venue is the Cassosport Hall at Alejová 11. Both concerts start at 19:00 and tickets cost between €13 and €17. More information can be found at www.epg.sk.
