THOUSANDS of Slovaks have already signed a petition against the construction of a multi-purpose complex called Metropolis, known also as the ‘mega-casino’, planned for Jarovce, on the outskirts of Bratislava.

The exact number of signatures will be announced at the end of January or when the number exceeds 100,000, the SITA newswire reported. At the moment, 20 citizen associations as well as religious organisations, churches and municipalities are supporting the petition drive which was started on December 22. The petition demands that state representatives and municipal authorities prohibit the construction of the Metropolis project in Slovakia by TriGranit, one of Europe's largest developers.
