As part of its plan to trim the state‘s administrative bureaucracy, the Robert Fico government has announced the dissolution of the independent Environment Ministry. Along with part of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development, it will merge with the Ministry of Agriculture to create a new Ministry for Agriculture, Environment and Regional Development. The Slovak parliament approved the plan on January 20 and the stand-alone Environment Ministry will disappear at or shortly after the general election scheduled for June 12.
