Police have brought criminal charges against an entrepreneur – thus far unidentified – who allegedly engaged in embezzlement involving tenders worth €1.73 million at the Defence Ministry and enriched himself to the tune of at least €173,000 in the process, the TASR newswire reported.
“The Special Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion before a pre-trial judge at the Specialised Criminal Court (in Pezinok) to remand the accused in custody because of the possibility of influencing witnesses” or marring the investigation in other ways, the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, Jana Tokolyová, told TASR.
According to her, charges were levelled by investigators of the Bureau to Fight Corruption against the entrepreneur – identified only as M.D. – under the laws governing public procurement and auction procedures. She added that cash was seized along with the accused.
