EU VAT refund applications

PAYERS of value added tax (VAT) may ask for a VAT refund from other EU member countries for 2009 only via electronic means up to the end of September.

PAYERS of value added tax (VAT) may ask for a VAT refund from other EU member countries for 2009 only via electronic means up to the end of September.

“Slovak VAT payers who purchased goods or services in another European Communities member state can ask for a VAT refund for 2009 if the whole sum of VAT paid was at least €50 or equivalent in the national currency,” said Miroslav Dobák, spokesperson for Slovakia’s Tax Directorate, as cited by the TASR newswire.

The requirement to submit an application electronically, as well as the change in the deadline, stems from a revision to the VAT law and the new system of VAT refunds between member states.

VAT payers should communicate with the tax administration via the portal of Slovakia’s Tax Directorate.
