Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič received the new Austrian Ambassador to Slovakia, Josef Markus Wuketich, for his first audience in Bratislava on October 11, the SITA newswire reported.

After the meeting, the president said he appreciated the fact that the Schengen zone has much simplified mutual meetings of citizens of both countries. Slovakia and Austria are good neighbours and understand each other in all areas, with open questions of the use of nuclear energy and waterworks on the Danube pending.

"I will be glad if we are able to find understanding on these issues, too. The intensity of the meetings of our highest representatives implies it," said Gašparovič, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
