Independent candidate and well-known businessman Alojz Hlina withdrew his candidacy for the position of mayor of Bratislava on November 18. He announced the move via his blog, which is hosted by the web portal of the Sme daily.
Hlina said he will not back any of the remaining candidates. “I failed to win the support of any political party. Subsequently it has turned out that in Bratislava, society’s demand for an independent candidate is not strong enough. The capital will again choose only between red and blue,” Hlina stated in his statement, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
