Parliament's secret ballot to choose a new General Prosecutor will be held shortly before noon on Thursday, December 2, Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulík (SaS) said following an MPs' gremium on December 1, the TASR newswire wrote.

The election of the general prosecutor will directly follow voting on individual laws that are currently under parliamentary debate, which will begin at 11:30, the TASR newswire wrote.

This runs contrary to the timeframe announced by main opposition Smer party leader and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Robert Fico, who said prior to the gremium that the vote on the new prosecutor-general would take place on Thursday after 17:00.

In the vote, joint coalition candidate Jozef Čentéš will face incumbent General Prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka, who is vying for re-election after being nominated by Smer MP Mojmír Mamojka. Trnka's current term in office will expire in early February.
