IN THE new building of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, world-famous Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez will give a concert on February 3 at 19:30. The “King of Bel Canto”, as he is dubbed, will sing selected arias by Cimarosa, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Gounod, Massenet and Boieldieu in what might be one of the highlights of this season at the SND. Organ Concert – Organ player Csaba Király from Hungary, winner of several international competitions (both as a pianist and organist) performs works by Franz Liszt including Ave Maria, Consolation Des Major, Zur Trauung, Hosannah, Totentanz (Dance of the Dead), and others.

Ekoglass Festival 2010 – Artists from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia showcase the results of their work, made out of glass waste during the International Field Workshop in Szklarska Poreba (PL) and Desná (CR).

Planet Magnet - Petr Bařinka – The avant-garde works of this young Czech artist combine all genres of modern art, including comics, advertising posters and animated cartoons.

Bienále divadelnej fotografie 2010 / The Biennale of Theatre Photography represents the culmination of the initial year of this competition and the creme de la creme of contestants’ works.

Ples saleziánov spolupracovníkov / The Ball of Salesian Workmates marks the culmination of cooperation between the Nitra branch of Matica Slovenská, a national cultural institution, and Salesian volunteers and activists.

Spomienky na budúcnosť / Memories ofthe Future – As part of a project bringing young artists to public attention, the works of Trnava native Ivan Dudáš, focusing on video art and digital images, are being shown in the klUb 3 venue of the Ján Koniarek Gallery.

IN THE “culture nod” Stanica Žilina-Záriečie, US band Kayo Dot, the Tartar Lamb (grouping consisting of two members of Kayo Dot) and Jeremiah Cymerman (US) will play on January 31 at 20:00 for fans of avant-garde, progressive rock or experimental music characterised by rich instrumentation and longer-than-usual tunes.
