An investigator with the District Police Corps Headquarters in Prievidza (Trenčín Region) has charged three employees of the mining company Hornonitrianske Bane Prievidza with public endangerment, the TASR newswire reported on Thursday, April 14, citing the Trenčín District Prosecutor's Office.
The three employees were involved in the process of putting out a fire at a coal mine in Handlová on August 10, 2009. It is alleged that their negligence caused fatal injuries to nine miners and 11 mine rescuers, with a further nine miners sustaining various injuries. The accused could face up to 10 years in jail.
