A TRADITIONAL spring exhibition of naive art is currently taking place at the Typo & Ars Gallery, Roľnícka 349 in the Vajnory district of Bratislava. It is dedicated to Slovak artists from the mainly Slovak village of Kovačica in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, and ranges from older masters like Zuzana Chalupová and Ján Kňazovic, to contemporary oil paintings. Koncert Trio Tango – This concert by Ursula Fiedler (vocals and violin), Thomas Kirsten (cello) and Christian Heitler (piano and arrangements) comes with works reflecting early Modernism in music. “Tango Nuevo” by Astor Piazolla will be performed with works by Silesian late-Romantic composer Conrad Ansorge.

GASP 3 – The dance-rhythmical show prepared by the Slovak Dance Theatre / Slovenské divadlo tanca bears the typical traces of choreographer Ján Ďurovčík, this time including a combination of classical and less traditional forms, a touch of humour and folklore.

Jubilujúci velikáni hudby / Great Musicians Celebrating Anniversaries – The Opera of the Slovak National Theatre has prepared a special concert commemorating the anniversaries of some renowned central European composers: Ján Cikker, Gustav Mahler and Antonín Dvořák. The cast includes, among others, A. Kohútková, P. Mikuláš and Ilya Silchukov (Belarus).

Lentilky – This exhibition offers a thorough view of the small-format works of Dávid Baffi. Small formats, known as Lentilky (a Slovak brand of chocolate sweets similar to Smarties or M&Ms), are combination of studies, essays and archives documenting the research process.

Banská Bystrica
The United States Air Forces in Europe Band gives a series of concerts in Slovakia in the beginning of May. It will perform on May 7 at 19:00 in the Štiavničky Sports Hall in Banská Bystrica. Tickets can be purchased through the Information Centre in SNP Square 1 (tel. 048/4155-085).

Eugen Suchoň - Krútňava / The Whirlpool – The most performed opera by a Slovak composer is based on Milo Urban’s short novel. The story of love and hatred ending in a drama of consciousness is set in a folk environment after World War I.
