World-famous guitarist Jeff Beck (who played with The Yardbirds and recently received three Grammys) comes to Bratislava on June 24 to give a concert as part of Spring Jazz Days. Hot Pants Road Club, a hot new Austrian band and the Slovak band Sto múch are also on the bill. MODERN DANCE: Made in Slovakia – An evening of three modern choreographies, made by Igor Holováč, Ján Ševčík and Šárka Ondrišová to various musical pieces, from Mozart to modern pop/rock/avant-garde music.

LIVE MUSIC: Hochspannung! The Uniques (SK) + Heavy Feet (UK), Mickey The Kid (CZ) & Michael Priest – The Slovak progressive band The Uniques return from Berlin to join forces with other performers and give a “unique” concert.

EXHIBITION: Cena galérie NOVA: Sklo 2011 / The NOVA Gallery Award: Glass 2011 – The 3rd year of a competition for artists working with glass, organised by this gallery, focuses on 20 finalists from among 70 participants from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The exhibition will be held in the Medium Gallery.

EXHIBITION: Ako sa uchováva pominuteľnosť / How the Magic is Preserved – The Theatre Institute, together with the Slovak National Museum, presents a vast collection of posters, bulletins, photos and props in an effort to grasp the elusive essence of theatre in the 50 years of the institute’s existence.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Festival Mlyn/Mill Festival – The traditional open-air music festival has been divided into Pop-rock Friday and Country Saturday this year, offering performers like David Koller, Nedvěd Brothers, Petra Černocká, Iveta Bartošová, and others.

OPERA: XXXVIII. Zámocké hry zvolenské / The 38th Zvolen Castle Plays – This popular festival combining opera and an open-air atmosphere at Zvolen Castle brings a host of events, among them the classical L’ Elissir d’Amore / Love Potion by G. Donizetti, conducted by Igor Bulla, directed by Lenka Horinková and performed by the artists of the State Opera of Banská Bystrica. This classical opera of Italian Bel Canto is very popular due to its light and playful character.

HISTORICAL CASTLE FEAST: XII. Fiľakovské historické hradné hry / The 12th Fiľakovo Castle Games – The event consists of an international competition in archery, a commemorative concert for the last castle’s warden István Koháry II, a fair featuring traditional crafts, a festival of local food, Oriental dancers, games for both children and adults, and much more.

The Aero-moto víkend, a two-day air show at Poprad Airport on June 25-26 will open the summer season in the High Tatras. The show promises the Flying Bulls acrobatic squadron, Hungarian pilot and acrobatics champion Péter Besenyei, and some fine historic aeroplanes. Tickets cost €5-€8 and can be purchased only on-site. FOLKLORE: Folklórny Prešov 2011 / The Folklore Prešov 2011 – The local Matica Slovenská and PKO Leisure- and Culture Park organise the 7th year of the festival presenting folk ensembles and groups from the Šariš region, within the Prešov Cultural Summer series. Other events include dance groups, local pop and rock performers, and more.
