TWO government proxy offices, one for Roma communities and the other for civil society groups, will now be under the Interior Ministry rather than the Government Office, the cabinet of Prime Minister Robert Fico decided at its meeting on June 27, the SITA newswire reported.
The actual office of the government’s plenipotentiary for Roma communities will be relocated to Spišská Nová Ves from Bratislava, a step that should better serve cooperation between regional authorities and the proxy, said Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák as reported by SITA.
“It is a very important topic for us and we want to make visible improvements,” Kaliňák stated, as quoted by SITA.
Kaliňák has not stated whether he plans to name a different person to chair the proxy office for Roma communities.
