TO MARK the 20th anniver- sary of Slovak independence, and Košice’s role as European Capital of Culture in 2013, state-owned postal operator Slovak Post has released a special postage stamp.

It shows the silhouette of Bratislava Castle (a symbol of the capital and of Slovak statehood) gradually merging with the silhouette of Košice, the city that was chosen to be European Capital of Culture 2013, the TASR newswire wrote.

The first-day cover (FDC) with an FDC stamp, the date January 1, 2013, and the domicile of Košice, have also been issued. The designer of the postage stamp, the FDC and the FDC stamp is Slovak painter Peter Augustovič; the author of the siderography is Jozef Česla. They cost less than €2 and can be bought through www.pofis.sk.
