CRIMINAL prosecution has begun over an accident that occurred during the Myjavský zlet (Myjava Aviation) gathering during the June 14-16 weekend at the airport in the town of Myjava.

The pilot of a hang glider hit a 19-year-old youth from Brezová pod Bradlom when taking off as the young man was standing in the foreground near the runway. Trenčín police spokesperson Elena Antalová told the SITA newswire that both the young man and the glider fell to the ground. Though the pilot was not injured the young visitor has suffered injuries that will take more than 42 days to heal. The spokesperson added that the pilot was not drunk but the incident is still being investigated.

Myjavský zlet is also a memorial to commemorate “Uncle” Považanec, a long-time member of the local aerial club named Delta.
