Mišenka failed with his complaint against prolonged custody

Suspect Viliam Mišenka who was escorted to Slovakia from Venezuela in February, failed in his complaint to the Supreme Court which sought to overturn an August 16 ruling by the Specialised Criminal Court that saw his time in pre-trial custody extended.

Suspect Viliam Mišenka who was escorted to Slovakia from Venezuela in February, failed in his complaint to the Supreme Court which sought to overturn an August 16 ruling by the Specialised Criminal Court that saw his time in pre-trial custody extended.

“Slovak Supreme Court scrutinised the complaint of the defendant, and came to the conclusion that the verdict of the Specialised Criminal Court was lawful and right,” office of the Supreme Court wrote, as quoted by the SITA newswire. Mišenka is charged with having participated in the murder of alleged gang leader Peter Čongrády, and pre-trial custody is now prolonged until April 7, 2014. He is also suspect on several other crimes, including murders, but he denies all charges, his lawyer told SITA.

Earlier, Mišenka’s lawyer Igor Cibula claimed that his client was not in Slovakia when the alleged crime was committed, but the prosecutor’s office has since demonstrated he was. Mišenka was taken into custody immediately after he was brought to Slovakia from Venezuela, amid fears he might flee.
