TWO jazz saxophonists, Italy’s Michele Polga and Slovak Radovan Tariška, will unite for a concert on February 5 at 19:30 at the Ateliér Babylon (SNP Square 14) in Bratislava. Other musicians include Paolo Birro on piano, Stefano Senni on double bass and Walter Paoli on drums, all from Italy, and Slovaks Ondrej Krajňák on piano, Tomáš Baroš on double bass and two drummers - David Hodek and Marián Švečík. Quasars Ensemble – This modern classical ensemble will perform in Bratislava “Viennese music from the Art Nouveau era in Bratislava, Slovak jazz in Prague and Polish Neo-classicism in Paris”, through the compositions of Alexander Albrecht, Alexander Moyzes and Aleksander Tansman.

Depeche Mode – The legendary British tech-no pop band returns to Slovakia on their Delta Machine Tour, after last year’s enormously successful tour, with a set list featuring their newer singles.

Sensually Hafla – The second edition of the romantic Oriental dan-ce party on the occasion of Valentine’s Day offers lectures, a bazaar and dances performed to Andalusian and Arabian music, with guests from Syria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Pressburger Klezmer Band – This prominent Slovak band will perform their mix of klezmer – the traditional music of central-European Jews – and jazz, reg-gae, Latin and other genres.

Jazz Trio – This trio consisting of Juraj Schweigert (harmonica, vocals), Tomáš Lukáč (guitar) and Juraj Kalász (double bass) play traditional jazz, evoking the atmosphere of old-time jazz clubs.

So Many Fish, So Little Time – This exhibition of Katarína Janečková, curated by Július Barczi and Nina Gažovičová, presents the young Slovak artist’s recent works, including acrylic paintings, space paintings and four hanging objects called Bubla Fish.

Exhibitions for three artists coincide at the House of Arts: Ivica Krošláková, Oľga Bartošíková and Ľudovít Hološka. Krošláková is a crucial representative of Informel in Slovakia; Bartošíková has been exploring new directions and represents super-realism; and Hološka’s paintings, drawings and illustrations are completed with his essays, reviews and lectures.

A NIGHT ski race called Hudy Night Work Skialpová Štvanica (Ski-touring Chase) will take place on February 8 at 17:30 at the Donovaly ski resort within the Snow Tour 2014 series. There will be three categories – men, women and hobbyists – with two separate courses. Černošské Inšpirácie / Black Inspirations – Soloists Barbora Řeháčková (CZ, vocals), Lee Andrew Davison (US, vocals), František Tomšíček (CZ, trumpet), Radim Linhart (CZ, piano), Jan Linhart (CZ, drums) and Vít Fiala (CZ, double bass), conducted by Czech Petr Chromčák, will perform black spirituals and a suite from Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess.
