According to Slovakia’s coach Vladimír Vůjtek, the crucial point for the match was the first period, after which the Czech team was winning 3:0. Though Slovakia managed to score three goals in the following two periods (two by Marián Hossa and one by Tomáš Surový), it was not enough.
The Slovaks did not manage to win any of their Olympic matches. They lost to the United States (7:1), Slovenia (3:1) as well as Russia (1:0 in a shootout). The country placed 11th of 12 competing teams, the SITA newswire reported.
Three of the players, Hossa, captain Zdeno Chára and Michal Handzuš, agreed that the team was capable to get a better place.
“It is hard to search for the reasons for mistakes,” Chára told SITA.
