President Andrej Kiska on July 16 appointed five new ambassadors - the first appointments of this kind since he took up his presidential office in mid-June.

One of the new ambassadors is current Foreign and European Affairs Ministry spokesman Boris Gandel who is set to replace Ambassador to Denmark Radomír Boháč. Meanwhile, Andrea Elscheková-Matisová will succeed Ján Foltín in Switzerland, Milan Lajčiak will take over from Dušan Bella in South Korea, Pavol Svetík will fill the shoes of Ivan Lančarič in Kuwait and Tibor Králik will became new ambassador to Finland in place of Juraj Podhorský.

The replacement of five more ambassadors is also on the way, the TASR newswire wrote. Their names haven’t been revealed yet, however, as they still haven’t received official approval from the countries of their future service.

The government of Prime Minister Robert Fico decided on the 10 replacements back in March. In all cases the changes have been described as an ordinary rotation of ambassadors as part of four-year cycles.

Boris Gandel has been the spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcčák since April 2012. He had previously worked for several years as spokesman for Tatra Banka; but he also has experience with diplomatic service. In the past, he had served for four years as deputy ambassador in Prague, and spent several years at the embassy in Russia, the SITA newswire wrote. Gandel did not inform as to who will replace him at the post of Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman.
