THE FINANCIAL group Penta will take on two big publishing houses in Slovakia: Trend Holding and Spoločnosť 7 Plus, the Omediach.com website wrote on September 2.
Penta will enter the media market via cooperation with Dutch investment firm V-3 Media Holding, which has officially acquired both publishing houses. The financial group aims to gradually expand its investment presence in the media in the Czech and Polish markets and actively participate in ongoing ownership consolidation, Penta’s spokesperson Martin Danko told Omediach.com.
“The economic model of operation of mostly print media faces fundamental challenges in the form of a drop in income from advertising,” Danko said.
According to him, if the traditional media want to adjust to the new reality and survive, they need a financially strong and stable investor. The financial group wants to offer the publishing houses financial stability, broad know-how and expertise over managing difficult restructuring projects in the region, the spokesperson added.
“Our aim is to contribute to creating an economically successful model of operation of the media in the central-European region,” Danko told Omediach.com.
The Trend Holding publishing house issues Trend weekly and Profit bi-weekly, but also runs several websites, like Trend.sk, Medialne.sk, Trendreality.sk, Eprofit.sk, Trendrestauracie.sk, MyslimEkonomiky.sk and CSR.etrend.sk. It also organises events awarding the best firm of the year, bank of the year, insurer of the year and manager of the year.
Spoločnosť 7 Plus is, according to its website, the second biggest publishing house in Slovakia in terms of sold issues and advertising volume. It publishes the Plus Jeden Deň daily, the Plus 7 Dní weekly and several other magazines. It also administers the Atlas.sk and Centrum.sk websites.
