THE PUBLIC-service Slovak Radio (SRo) will host the Prix Ex Aequo 2014 Children’s and Youth Radio Drama festival that will present the best pieces from drama production across the world after two years. Altogether 16 countries will present their programmes in Bratislava between November 10 and 14, the SITA newswire reported.

The international jury composed of representatives from Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Ukraine and Slovakia will judge in total 37 programmes. For the first time the competition will be attended by the national radio from Vietnam.

Slovakia will be represented by the radio drama for children, Where the Carousel Flies in Winter by Radko Bachratý and the radio drama for youth, Fall of Icarus by Vanda Kyselicová. Both plays were originally written for SRo.

“We boast about it since many institutions send the dramatisations, which means they work with some literary work or theatre play, and we are proud that we have something original,” Zuzana Grečnárová from SRo told the press, as quoted by SITA.

The festival will offer the best from radio drama production, especially programmes of the radio stations associated in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). According to Grečnárová, the ambition of the festival is to divide the attention of authors, their talents and funds equally to adults and children, as reported by SITA.

The radio drama will be available also to listeners who will be able to come to the SRo building between November 11 and 13 and hear the dramas in two categories: for children and for youth. Part of the programme will be also a concert that will take place every evening at 19:00.

The award ceremony will be broadcast live at Radio Devín on November 14 at 19:00, SITA wrote.
