Budget deficit at end of January halved year-on-year

THE BUDGET deficit amounted to €60.5 million as of the end of January, which represents a drop of €62.4 million, or 50.8 percent, on an annual basis, the TASR newswire learnt from the Finance Ministry on February 1.

State budget revenues were close to €52 million higher year-on-year as of the end of January, with expenditures down by €10.4 million.

The ministry observed a sizable increase in incomes from the EU budget - by €147.4 million on the year.

Positive developments were seen in income from tax on the use of goods and licences to conduct activities, where a rise of €29.3 million was recorded. Excise tax income went up by €5.9 million, TASR reported.
