Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) has completed its transition from a producer and supplier of one commodity to a firm providing energy services with a complex portfolio including supply of natural gas and electricity via services with added value and solutions of energy effectiveness.

Top investor

The TOP TREND evaluation has confirmed that SE, with investments of almost €707 million in 2014, is the biggest investor in Slovakia retaining its position for the second consecutive year. Since the entry of the ENEL Group, a foreign shareholder, in 2006, SE has re-invested all of its profits in Slovakia, either via investing into construction of new units of power plants, or modernisation of operated ones as well as implementation of innovative projects.
Innovations are a driving force of sustainability for SE which reflects also in the company’s continuity as well as its ability to create a competitive advantage, in line with environmental, social and economic factors.

Top financial results

Financial results of SE have remained at an excellent level; net profit for 2014 was €170 million, third place among the strong competition evaluated by Trend. Also thanks to this result a the profit share could have been paid to each employee of the company as part of the company’s policy.
SE has reached prominent positions in categories of net cash flow and EBITDA. The latter amounted to €531 million, the third biggest amongst non-financial companies in Slovakia.

Top production

Despite unfavourable conditions on the market, where a significant decline in electricity prices continued, SE has maintained the quality and the volume of production and stable supplies of electricity. With volume of 22,015 GWh of generated electricity, SE covered 80 percent of the Slovak market and defended its position as the second biggest electricity producer in Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to investments and innovations, 92 percent of SE production is generated CO2 free. This share of so-called green electricity makes SE one of the leaders in the region.

TOP project – Mochovce 3 & 4

SE, not only by its declarations, but also by achieved financial indicators, has confirmed that its most important project and simultaneously the biggest investment is completion of the third and fourth units of the nuclear power plant Mochovce. It can be historically confirmed that this is one of the biggest private investments in Slovakia. According to the latest publicly available data, the third unit is more than 86 percent completed, while the entire project (both units) is 79 percent finished. At the beginning of the summer 4,800 people were working on the project.

After this €4.6 billion project is complete, the new units of the power plant will cover 25 percent of local energy consumption. Experts anticipate that after the units are launched, Slovakia will resume a significant position in electricity exports.

Green production

Simultaneously the share of clean energy produced, i.e. generated without emitting CO2, of the total electricity generated by SE, would even increase.
After the volume of wooden chips co-incinerated in the thermal power plant Vojany, the power plant in Novaky is being upgraded too, making its production more ecological and modern. Once this investment project is completed, its units 1 and 2 will meet the latest EU emission limits valid as of 2016.
Investments into hydropower plants are continual. Last year a small hydropower station Dobsina III broadened SE’s portfolio.
Two photovoltaic powers plants in Mochovce and Vojany with an aggregate installed capacity of 1.9 MW continue in successful commercial operation and by their production contribute to saving about 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
