State post service operator Slovenská Pošta plans to send people SMS or email notifications, the TASR newswire reported.

Those interested in the service will have to register with the post office to obtain Poštová karta (Client card). They need also to fill in the application form they can download from the internet and then submit it to the post office. In the application, they can choose whether they want to receive the notification by SMS, email or both. When asking for the consignment, people will have to show the number they receive in notification and their ID. If they do not pick up the delivery, the post office will send them also the notification ticket, TASR wrote.

The new system is voluntary, stressed Slovenská Pošta’s director Tomáš Drucker.

Slovenská Pošta sends more than 20 million pieces of forms concerning consignments every year. The new system should help the company to save money on these forms, Drucker added.

The company also introduced the electronic postal receipt. This means that at about the 300 biggest post offices people will not have to fill in the classic receipts, but use special terminals. The device will then print the receipt with submitted details. With this system Slovenská Pošta wants to eliminate the mistakes with addresses, TASR wrote.
