The Supreme Court has cancelled the verdicts of the Košice court, which had sentenced Ladislav Kuca to 25 years in prison for terrorism and other offences, the TASR newswire learnt on April 14.
On December 28, 2011, the man planted and detonated a homemade bomb in a rubbish bin outside a Košice fast food restaurant. Kuca was dubbed the first ever Slovak sentenced for terrorism for this. There were no injuries and only minor property damage.

“The facts were indicated correctly but they were incorrectly categorised as it should have been an offence of general public endangerment,” said one of the presiding judges, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
The case will therefore go back to the Košice District Court, as the Supreme Court has failed to be convinced that Kuca – who will remain in custody pending the new trial – wanted to intimidate the public and force the Government to take some actions or to adopt measures.
He was also found guilty of manufacturing explosives, the unlawful possession of firearms and intimidation.
