OUTDOOR: Slnovrat na Dunaji/ The Solstice on the Danube - More than forty events from Devín to Štúrovo, including on the Little Danube, will be part of The Solstice on the Danube. Organisers have prepared boating, rafting, sports competitions, children's programs and cultural and environmental events. It will be also possible to visit shipyards and harbours, exhibitions, screenings and learn about the natural heritage of the area. The programme of the first year of the event has already started in early June and will continue until the first weekend in July. Starts: throughout June; various places. FESTIVAL: Dolce Vitaj/  Sweet life or Dolce Welcome – Slovakia will welcome the ninth year of the event Dolce Vitaj this month, bringing the greatest attractions from Italian culture and gastronomy. Original architecture and design, concerts, theatres, movies and also traditional Italian delicacies come to Bratislava. After the success of previous years also the feast of Italian wine Vino Vitaj/ Wine Welcome is returning to Bratislava and will be held in the streets of the Old Town on June 16th. The aim of the event is to highlight the quality and diversity of Italian wines offered in the pleasant atmosphere of the capital. Starts: throughout June; various places. FESTIVAL: Bratislava Design Week – The fourth year of this selective international festival will again be an intense festival of contemporary design. Topic of this year is "The Road"; the road in terms of searching, inspiration, growing up, discovery, transformation, adventure or experiment. Significant guest of the event will be respected Jerszy Seymour, one of the most prolific contemporary designers. The main curating exhibitions are also the project of European design - European Design Stories and exhibition Everyday tropes Starts: June 7 – 11, Old Town (the second floor of ex-shopping house Dunaj, Square SNP, ZOYA Gallery, Ventúrska 1) Admission: Depends on the performance. FESTIVAL: Víkend otvorených parkov a záhrad/ Weekend of open parks and gardens–This event gives people the opportunity to get to know favourite places of garden art in Slovakia in a new way or insight into commonly accessible parks and gardens. The aim of this cultural and educational event is to present the value, particularly of historic parks and gardens to the public by the attractive process and lead them to active protection. It will be possible to visit Lizstová Garden, The former Palffy Garden, Park and Mansion Great Biel, Olejárska street, and many others. Starts: Jun 10-12; various places. Admission: free. FESTIVAL: Hidden Places - This festival was created in cooperation with Weekend of open parks and gardens and it should be a platform for the presentation of contemporary art in public spaces. Hidden Places Festival has an ambition to become a celebration of cultural parks, including various activities such as authors reading or picnics. This year the festival takes place in the Prugerova Garden. Special guest of the festival will be German artist from Stuttgard Martin Pfeifle who studied at Kunstakademie of Dusseldorf and he will devote a site-specific installation. THEATRE FESTIVAL: Istropolitana Project 2016 – 21st international festival of theatre universities. On the stages of five theatres in Bratislava will perform eighteen ensembles of young actors with their competitive performances. Students of theatres will come out not only on stages but also to the streets of the capital. Visitors can see a mass 90-minute parade of actors accompanied by drums. Every day in different theatres will be three performances from different countries. 18 theatre ensembles will be assessed by a 14-member student jury who will choose a winner at the end of festival and award a Raven prize in five categories. GASTRONOMY: Gurmán Fest Bratislava 2016/ Gourmet Fest Bratislava 2016 - The eighth year of the food festival presenting the best restaurants, chefs, winemakers, farmers and retailers of various delicacies. It will be possible to visit 21 restaurants and 59 chefs will come from 7 countries. Prepared are two picnic areas, two music stages, a special children's area, new Warm up bar and much more. DISCUSSION: Kurátorský výklad v anglickom jazyku na výstave François Kollar - Práca pohľadu/ Curatorial interpretation in English language through the exhibition Work perspective by François Kollar –The exhibition is accompanied by curator Pia Viewing from The Gallery Jeu de Paume in Paris. The French photographer François Kollar, originally from Slovakia, was a famous member of new objectivity of the movement and also an important fashion and advertising photographer. The exhibition is a reinstallation of the monographic exhibition François Kollar. Un ouvrier du regard / A working Eye in Gallery Jeu de Paume in Paris. MEETING: Day in nature – collecting plants, cooking, eating, learning + yoga - Event will be held in English. This day in nature is suitable for people who would like to spend a day in nature, cook, eat, exercise and find out more about the freshest, cheapest and lowest in fat food, which they maybe already know, but probably do not eat. The program comprises breakfast smoothies from herbs + oats, picking herbs in nature, interactive lecture about plants, cooking lunch (crackers, soup and warm vegetable salad) and much more including yoga. DANCE PERFORMANCE: Tango on Fire - This is a tailor-made performance presented for the 1st time in Bratislava - performed by professional dancers of Bestango & Dreamdancers which will be presented in Bratislava during the tango marathon Bratislava Tango Party. This performance is a combination of two disciplines: fire dancers and tango dancers. Two passions combined in one dance show. BALLET: From Fairytale to Fairytale - This is the most famous ballet by Czech composer Oskar Nedbal. From Fairytale to Fairytale, as choreographed by Achille Viscusi for the 1923/1924 season, was the first performance for children at the SND. WORKSHOP: Welcome to Slovakia workshop for newcomers - This workshop is for newcomers in Slovakia organised by Internationals Bratislava, a community established by expats for international people which started from the experience of foreigners, having lived and experienced the local culture. They will discuss topics such as where to find an English-speaking doctor or hairdresser, any foreigner-friendly bars in Bratislava, kindergartens, student communities, where to socialise, public transport and many more. PARTY: International Summer party – Good times, meeting others and dancing are part of the last Internationals summer party, before a community of international people in Bratislava break up for the summer holidays. OPERA: Così Fan Tutte – The dramma giocoso in two acts by W.A. JAZZ FESTIVAL: One Day Jazz Festival 2016 - The event returns with its Spring-Summer edition. For the first time in its history it will be held as an open-air festival. Additionally it will be present in three other Slovak towns. One of the performers is a world-renowned bass player, , singer and songwriter Avishai Cohen from Israel. He will present also his new trio accompanied by the symphony orchestra of the Brno Philharmonic led by Bastien Still from France. Another part of the programme includes musicians from USA such as John Shannon (guitar), Dan Brantigan (trumpet) and also Slovakia: Oskar Rózsa (bass), Martin Valihora (drums). BALLET: Le Corsaire – Adolphe Charles Adam – The ballet, written by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, and composed by Adam is a masterpiece of the Romantic era of ballet; choreographed and directed by Vasilij Medvedev and connected with the heyday of classical Russian ballet. The version staged in the Slovak National Theatre is inspired by the version of legendary Marius Petip and staged by Vasily Medvedev. Starts: Jun 19, 17:00; new SND building, Pribinova 17. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Solamente naturali in SNG / Flauta Ultimi - Internationally renowned instrumentalist and composer Jan Rokyta will present in the new programme together with Solamente naturali a wide variety of various recorders and folk flutes in the musical context of their creation and termination - songs spanning the 15th to 20th centuries in connection with improvisation and extending into contemporary music. EXHIBITION: 90 Retrospektíva/ 90 Flashback –The exhibition of photographer Karol Kállay(1926-2012) is a selection of his life-long creations (1926-2012) on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Karol Kallay brought to Slovakia a part of the world when traveling to Western countries and was very problematic according to curator Marián Pauer. The exhibition consists of one hundred black and white photographs divided into different rooms by country, including from Slovakia, Italy, USA, France, Russia, Mexico; as well as fashion photography. EXHIBITION: Mortuáriá/ Mortuaries – The exbition includes obituaries of aristocratic and yeoman families and church dignitaries from the collections of the Central Museum in Banská Bystrica. EXHIBITION: Dedičstvo Karola Veľkého/ Heritage of Charles the Great - The exhibition covers the period of the early Middle Ages as one of the milestones for the development of contemporary European cultural identity and it tries to apply the concept of 'unity in diversity' which is the motto of the European Union since 2000. It works with historical heritage, which we can either keep and respect or perceive it as an invitation to debate which lends a current sense to the past. EXHIBITION: Viva Italia! - The exhibitions consist of the works with museum value including 98 Italian artists, such as: Mimmo Paladino, Sandro Chia, Enzo Cucchi, Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mimmo Rotella, Emilio Isgrò, Mario Schifano, Franco Angeli, Roberto Crippa, Enrico Baj, Nanni Balestrini, Guglielmo Cavellini, Zoran Music and Franco Vaccari. Exposure is one of the most important artistic events realised in Slovakia in recent years. This selection curated by Laura Monaldi comes from the collection of Carlo Palli in Prato and it is also a representation of great passion. Mentioned archive consists of over 30,000 works, documents and testimonies, mainly concentrated on the artistic movements of the 1960s and 70s.
