Police from Trnava had to shoot up to 32 times to stop a vehicle in which four young women tried to escape the patrol in the early morning hours of August 2. Two women were shot and had to be hospitalised, the Sme daily reported.

The shooting was preceded by a wild drive by a 21-year-old woman in the streets of Trnava who did not want to stop the car even after police officers gave orders to do so.

“The car slowed down on Piešťanská Street and police officers wanted to control it,” said spokesperson for the Trnava regional police Martina Kredatusová, as quoted by Sme. “The driver locked the car and then briskly darted towards the police officer who had to jump aside in order not to be hit.”

The police officers were later joined also by other patrols. The car stopped only after driving a further 20 kilometres and a series of shooting in the village of Madunice. After dragging the driver from the car, they found it was a woman and that there were another three sitting in the vehicle.

“The driver was shot in the chest and ear, while 16-year-old N. from Trnava was shot in the arm,” Kredatusová said, as quoted by Sme.

When searching the vehicle, the police found the traces of drugs and there is a suspicion the driver was under their influence. Moreover, she did not have a driving licence, the TASR newswire reported.

The action of police officers is now investigated by the regional police as well as the inspectorate of the Interior Ministry. The investigator has meanwhile launched a criminal prosecution for attacking a public official, Sme wrote.
