Slovakia officially become part of the family of the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro August 1 as the national representation raised a flag during the official ceremony held in the city, and was welcomed by the organisers, the TASR newswire reported.
The ceremony was attended also by representations from Croatia, Congo and East Timor. All of them were greeted by the mayor of the Olympic village, two-time medallist and retired Brazilian professional women's basketball player Janeth Arcan.
“You will witness unforgettable things in Rio,” Arcan said, as quoted by TASR. “The Olympic Games will unite you and it is the most important event in the lives of many of you. The Olympic Games can build better world, and this is the idea I want to support in Rio.”

The representatives of the countries also wrote a message to the memorial wall raised in the Olympic village, which is part of the idea of Olympic Truce, TASR wrote.
