The platanus hispanica from Budatín in the Žilina region grows in the park near the Budatín castle and is 270-year-old and 27 metres tall. This plane tree is the biggest one in Budatín’s park.

The tree won a financial allowance equivalent of 300 euros which will be put towards treating the tree.

“The interest of the survey and the stories of trees is getting bigger and bigger every year. It shows that nature is important to us,” said Peter Medveď, the director of Foundation Ekopolis and one of the biggests organizers of the survey, for the TASR newswire.

The aim of the survey is to bring people’s attention to the environment and find a way to protect and care for Slovak nature.
