The accident took place on March 20, around 17:00, the SITA newswire wrote. The young man worked in the cage of a moving platform about ten metres above the ground. “During manipulation, the cage started moving, and then it crushed the man between the steel roof frame and the rail of the cage,” the main work safety inspector in Nitra, Róbert Bulla, told SITA.

The worker was resuscitated but suffered injuries that caused him to die later in hospital.

The work safety inspectorate is making an audit at the construction site. “So far, we found several violations of legal rules – as well as some others – to secure safety and protection of health at work,” Bulla added, stating that a fine of up to €200,000 might be imposed.

The man was installing a fire-exinguishing system from the platform's cage under the roof construction, the Sme.sk website wrote.

„A prosecution action for the misdemeanour of negligible killing has been launched,“ police spokesperson Božena Bruchterová told Sme. „Experts have been invited to elaborate on their expertise,“ she added.

Jaguar Land Rover confirmed the accident and expressed regret and compassion for the man's family and friends in a statement, adding that it is cooperating in the investigation with the construction company and the due institutions.
