Štiavnické Bane is an old mining village, historically consisting of the Siglisberg and Vindšachta settlements. Vindšachta included a complex of administrative and operational mining buildings with a large economic impact, so it was necessary to fortify and protect them during the time of the Ottoman raids. From the Renaissance fortification system of 21 gates, bastions and towers, only one has been preserved.
