FILM FESTIVAL: The Park Film Fest – International Film Festival Trenčianske Teplice – will have two competition sections: Her View – focused on women filmmakers (jurors are British director Rupert Murray, Spanish director and cameraman Jeronimo Molero and Slovak actress Zuzana Mauréry); and Great Hopes, presenting talented, hopeful European filmmakers (jurors are film reviewer Pamela Pianezza, film reviewer Matej Sotník and director Daniel Rihák). HISTORICAL FESTIVAL: Stredoveké dni v Hlohovci / Medieval Days in Hlohovec – The 4th year of this festival evoking the spirit of Middle Ages in this town will offer the story of the young knight who goes for training to a master – while visitors will be able to follow his apprenticeship, they will experience, court entertainment, hunting and the knight’s duel in which he seeks revenge for the murder of his father. Nitra/Drážovce

HISTORICAL BARBECUE: Raňajky v tráve 2017 / The Luncheon on the Grass 2017 – The open-air picnic near the cult Romanesque church in Drážovce has become an annual tribute to the era of impressionism, French painters and the savoir vivre – enjoying life. In case of bad weather, the participants are asked to take umbrellas and take a walk to the church where an exhibition of the works of Ester Šabíková will be placed, and music performances will be organised. HISTORICAL FESTIVAL: Hradovanie na Nitrianskom hrade / Castle Games at the Nitra Castle – The Nitra tourism agency, the non-profit organisation Castellum and the Bojník historical fencing troupe bring five performances called Hradovanie na Nitrianskom hrade during the 2017 tourist season. The day at Nitra Castle includes fencing, historical dances, courses in both disciplines, period cuisine, a fashion show of historical costumes, falconers, games for children and adults, as well as dubbing of knights, a Turkish café, Oriental dances and more. CONCERT: Space A – The concert of the US band Space A – which is part of the United States Air Forces in Europe Band (USAFE) based in Germany and which has been performing for more than 60 years – brings American pop in a huge show as part of its European tour, stopping for an open-air concert in Nitra. Banská Štiavnica/Nová Baňa

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Strunobranie 2017 – After several years’ break, the nation-wide competition for non-professional musicians, bands and soloists, of folk, jazz, and rock, will continue this year: registration takes place on June 22 and the competition itself on June 23-24. Starts: June 22 (registration, 17:00), June 23 (14:00)-24 (10:00); amphitheatre near the Tajch lake, Nová Baňa.

Banská Bystrica

MUSIC EFSTIVAL: Rockscape 2017 – The 5th year of the music festival in the city centre offers three days of rock, ethno, and other music genres, performed by Slovak and foreign musicians. Performers include Cascabel, Acid Force, Incanrit (SWE), Konfront (CZ), Heľenine Oči, Horkýže Slíže, Mr. Teddy & The Sidekicks, Para, N3O Akustika, Chiki Liki Tu-a, Malalata, Stromboli (CZ), ZVA 12-28 Band. MUSEUM/EVENT: Čičmany Enlivened – Oživené Čičmany – The Považské Museum in Žilina has prepared a series of short cultural events for the 2017 season which bring singers and instrumentalists of the region to the open-air museum of folk architecture in Čičmany (on June 25, July 16, August 20 and September 17). Banská Bystrica

SPORT: International Yoga Day – The June 21, International Yoga Day, will be celebrated later in Banská Bystrica – on the morning of June 25 by a series of free yoga classes between 9:30 and 12:00. DANCE: Ufftenživot (CZ): Loneliness&Stuff / Lukáš Homola: Solus – The two joint performances explore loneliness versus togetherness, sharing and caring, one versus a couple, and more. Loneliness&Stuff has been created by Sára Arnstein, Jiří Šimek (ufftenživot), music by Ivo Sedláček (reproduced music Forest Swords, Perfume Genius, La Femme, WhoMadeWho), light design Štěpán Hejzlar, David Prokopič. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Gala-concert from the Slovak Sinfonietta and Adriana Kučerová in the Château Gbeľany – This special concert from the Slovak Sinfonietta (ŠKO Žilina) is conducted by the UK’s Simon Chalk; with Adriana Kučerová ( soprano), Lukáš Szentkereszty (violin), performing Gioacchino Rossini: pieces from Barbeiere of Siviglia; Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, Charles Gounod’s Je veux vivre of Romeo and Juliet, Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Jules Massenet’s Thais; Vincenzo Bellini’s La Somnabula: Mozart’s Figaro’s Wedding; John Williams’ soundtrack to Schindler’s List, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto; Johann Strauss’ Ritter Pázmán. FOLKLORE: Cassovia Folkfest – The 36th year of the city folklore festival in Košice offers the traditional attempt at a record in mass dancing of the karička dance, the festival of halušky, Ján’s Evening, children’s folklore ensembles, craft markets, dance performances of Slovak and other folklores, exhibitions, and more.
