Slovak police officers to study English, Russian, and Ukrainian

Police officers from border units in the east of Slovakia and those serving at Slovak airports will be trained in languages.

Both the border and alien police units are to study English, Russian, and Ukrainian.

“The main objective of the project will be to improve the knowledge of both professional and general language, with a focus on subjects integral to the individual departments,” the SITA newswire quoted from a contract published in the Central Register of Contracts.

The cost of this project will be €292,513, with €219,385 of this amount made available from the European Union’s Internal Security Fund and €73,128 from the budget of the Interior Ministry.

The aim of the project is that police officers from border units in the east of Slovakia, as well as police officers serving at Slovak airports, should be trained. The language courses will run from July 2017 to June 2021.

“Slovakia made a commitment to increase the level of language courses for policemen who secure the outer borders of the EU,” states the document, as quoted by SITA.

At the same time, Slovakia is adapting its national structure to the common structures and courses of basic human rights. Preparation and implementation of educative activities is based on current Schengen acquis, the document added.
