Bratislava lags behind V4 capitals according to ranking

In a ranking of 180 capitals, Bratislava is close to the middle and far behind other European metropolises

The Slovak capital finished in 77th place, the Nový čas daily wrote on July 18, in a ranking published by the University of Economics in Navarre, Spain. This is an improvement over last year by six places.

The IESE Cities in Motion Index has evaluated 180 metropolises according to several criteria, including transport, economy or unemployment rate, human capital and public administration.

Best and worst of Bratislava

Bratislava had its best showing in the category of social cohesion, ranking in 13th place. This category assessed criminality, health care and unemployment. The capital also fared well in urban planning, where experts looked at the number of architectural offices, shops and number of people per household, Nový čas wrote. The worst areas included transport and public administration, where Bratislava ranked 118th, Nový čas wrote.

Among the capitals of other Visegrad Group countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia), Prague was ranked highest at 41st on the list, Warsaw at 54th and Budapest at 67th. New York, London and Paris topped the ranking, and Karachi, the capital of Pakistan, placed last.
