Second came Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) with 26.5-percent support, followed by Speaker of Parliament and chair of the Slovak National Party (SNS), Andrej Danko, with 14.4 percent.

While Fico’s support is stable and oscillates around 26 percent, both Kiska and Danko have lost compared with the previous poll. Last year, more than 31 percent of respondents said that they trust the president, while Danko was supported by 20 percent of respondents. This means that the support of the latter dropped by one-quarter, the Denník N daily reported.

Last year’s poll was carried out in June, when Danko had ambitions of becoming the new prime minister and wanted to compete with Fico. His image, however, worsened after his controversial promotion to captain’s rank as well as the EU funds distribution scandal at the Education Ministry. The SNS chair is now questioning his stay in politics, according to Denník N.

As for other popular politicians, the list of the top five is closed by Richard Sulík, leader of the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), with 13.6 percent and Most-Híd chair Béla Bugár with 12.8 percent.
