Blog: Poetry slams gain popularity in Slovakia

Fountain Poetry is more than ready to start off the new season.

Receiving a warm applause and being widely spread currently in English and German-speaking countries, Poetry Slam, as we define it, is a specific style of reciting poet’s original piece of work, whose goal is to get the most welcoming reaction from the audience as a response to his or her suggestive, emotional or entertaining performance.

Poetry Slam has found its place in a project called Fountain Poetry which is attempting to enrich Slovakia with Writing and Performing as an art form, giving the Writers and Freethinkers a new medium and stage to express themselves. They have successfully hosted one season with different kinds of slams, with the intention to please a wide range of individual preferences. Not willing to limit their own creativity, they gave the first season start with purely English Slam Poetry and later have prepared an interesting clash of English and German languages, whose representatives tried to persuade the audience of the beauty of their native tongue while putting all their effort to become the poet of the night.

However, the time of holidays has passed and the members of Fountain Poetry are more than ready to start off the new season with our beloved Inkwell Poetry Slam on 29th of September at 6 pm at cosy Kalab in the capital of Slovakia. Be sure to meet great poets, who will infuse the room with a sophisticated combinations of words, resonating in your ears. This time the Poetry Slam night will be enriched of neighbouring kind of art as you will hear some live music!

Furthermore, but not less importantly, the boundaries of our Poetry Slam project are moving to down to Hungary, where they will give an abundance of art to the Saturday night (30th September) at 6 pm at Engame Academy.

If you are interested in poetry (slam), find yourself looking for books and speeches and variety of words or would like to broaden your perspective, do not hesitate to come and see Poetry Slam event by yourself on one of our nights!
