Pressburg Dance Fest 2017

Bratislava, Friday, September 29

Pressburg Dance Fest has become a traditional event, making Slovakia’s capital Bratislava dance at the end of every September.

The goal is to support oriental dance as an art with its whole spectrum of styles, so that it no longer be perceived as cheap entertainment, but with respect for the historical background and present modern evolution of dance.

The festival, traditionally, consists of an oriental dance competition (Friday and Saturday) for dancers of different expertise levels. European Researchers' Night

Bratislava, Friday, September 29

The festival of science - European Researchers' Night is a yearly organized event throughout Europe and even beyond. This event brings together a large gathering of people and researchers on the last Friday of September and it takes place simultaneously in about 250 cities.

The exhibition presents the most interesting research findings in Slovakia as well as notable Slovak researchers, who have been successful abroad owing to their research.

Battle of Bratislava

Sad Janka Kráľa, Petržalka, Saturday, September 30

On September 30th, the Cultural and Historical Festival - Battle of Bratislava will be held in Sad Janka Kráľa in Bratislava for the third time. The main part of its program will be the reconstruction of the military strike from the first half of the 17th century during the period of the Hungarian Empire. For more information visit Facebook.

Huang Yi & Kuka

Mestské divadlo P. O. Hviezdoslava, Laurinská, Bratislava-Staré Mesto, Sunday, October 1, 19:00

Taiwanese dancer, choreographer, inventor and filmmaker Huang Yi is a creator that combines continuous motion with mechanical and multimedia elements. Bratislava Octoberfest 2017

St. Petersburg Ballet – Swan Lake

The most famous and most valued by critics original St. Petersburg ballet will perform for the first time in Slovakia.

White Night 2017

The largest and most visited contemporary art festival in Slovakia. White Night offers visitors an untraditional artistic walk through the night city, full of experiences and new sensations. The Master of Okoličné and the Gothic Art of Spiš circa 1500 – The Master responsible for decorating the former Marian altar from the Franciscan monastery in Okoličné near Liptovský Mikuláš belongs among the best painters of the Central European Late Gothic period and he worked with other important Spiš sculptors, including Master Pavol. Adam Friedrich Oeser - In February 2017, three hundred years passed since the birth of Adam Friedrich Oeser, a painter, engraver, sculptor and art teacher. On this occasion, the Bratislava City Gallery mounted an exhibition mapping the life and work of the native of Pressburg who became a reputable figure of cultural and artistic life in Dresden, Weimar and Leipzig. His life and work are interesting for scholars in the area of not only art history but also literature, pedagogy and book culture. He has been perceived primarily as a spiritual driving force of early classicism, a friend and a teacher of the giants such as Johann Joachim Winckelmann and Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Erik Šille – Error – The exhibition presents an overview of Erik Šille’s art; a man who belongs among the most successful painters of the middle generation. Like at home – The exhibition reflects the main influences on Slovak sculpture of the 20th and 21st century. Every family has its own story – A unique project presents family treasures and family stories from twenty members of Bratislava’s Jewish community from different generations. TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN NEDBALKA GALLERY:
Palo Macho, Timing the Line – The exhibition presents a unique collection of original glass objects and sketches to art lovers from Bratislava and abroad. Its author is the leading Slovak artist Palo Macho (born 1965), the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and the winner of major national and international exhibitions of contemporary art. The exhibition showcases Macho’s drawings, still a little known feature of his art since he is best known for his glass paintings. In addition to painted studio glass, he has exhibited the results of his cooperation with major Slovak artists in the project called Conjunctions / Time Coincidence running for the last 14 years.
This collection of works has not been presented in this form until now and the exhibition in Bratislava will be the world premiere. Bratislava Illustration Biennial (BIB)
The Slovak exhibition of childrens’ literary illustrations, one of the biggest of its kind in the world. The main exhibition of the works competing at the biennial is moving to the building of the national museum this year. The programme includes several accompanying exhibitions and workshops. TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN DANUBIANA GALLERY:
Ján Kelemen: Balance
The intent of this exhibition, which features a selection of Kelemen’s most recent paintings and sculptures, is to create a synthesis of colors and shapes within the context of the spatial forms of sculptures. Kelemen discovered a new field for experimentation in glass. This material offers him different possibilities for modeling and works well with another element – light. Peter Uchnár: Illustrations
Selections from the books, Treasure Chest of the Most Beautiful Fairy Tales, 2014 and the iconic Peter Pan (2009, 2015) are at the center of this exhibition. Uchnár fully applied his trademark painting techniques with these - a light brush stroke, hatching, spots and color nuances. Walasse Ting: The Fascinating World of Colours of Walasse Ting
The work of Walasse Ting has become a part of Chinese and Western culture, and the modernity of his style is based on the differences between these cultures. This exhibition will present a significant collection of his works from the Meulensteen Collection, the Nico Delaive Collection and the Frech Collection. Michael Rittstein: With a Lightness in My Step
This exhibition includes the series of paintings entitled The Sports Epic (2011). These 27 paintings depict Olympic sports and were commissioned by the Czech Olympic Committee for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. The exhibition also features a large painting entitled According to the Script (2009), which was commissioned by the renowned Czech director Jan Němec for his film, Heart Beat 3D. In addition to the more than 60 paintings that will be on display, a book entitled Michael Rittstein has been published on this occasion, in which this painter, artist and pedagogue explains the meaning and circumstances of the origin of certain paintings.
