The tourist season in the northern Spiš region and Pieniny will end this weekend with a hike on the Path of Mineral Springs.
“Many people know the Dunajec River as the main attraction in this area,” CEO of the Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) Northern Spiš – Pieniny Erika Šalatová said, as quoted by the Korzár Spiš regional newspaper. “But the mineral springs are worth visiting as well – the natural assets from the depths of the Earth. These are connected by the attractive Path of the Mineral Springs, being almost 117 kilometres in length. Currently, it has 11 stops.”

It will start at 7:30 from the Ľubovňa Spa (Ľubovnianske Kúpele); more specifically, from the Andrej, Veronika and Sisi springs. The route is almost 20 kilometres long, with a planned schedule of about five hours, the terrain suitable for not very experienced hikers as well.
Participants will be able to taste water from individual springs and enjoy views of Vysoká and Ľubovňa Castle. From Vyhliadka, the route will continue across Nová Ľubovňa, Úboč, and Hniezdne, all the way to Stará Ľubovňa.
Natural riches
Water sources are one of the glorious prides of northern Spiš and the smallest national park in Slovakia, Pieniny. The most famous springs on this path include Prameň Sulinka, the springs in Ľubovňa Spa and Prameň Smerdžonka, whose healing powers are used in the Červený Kláštor Smerdžonka Spa.
“The Earth’s gifts represent the irreplaceable and crucial natural assets of our region, Šalatová said, as quoted by Korzár, adding that by the end of the tourist season a unique method is used to familiarise the public with the most famous springs, combining the useful with a pleasant experience: apart from active hiking, the Path of the Mineral Springs educates and presents the importance of beauty hidden underground.
This path can be walked all year round, she added.
