Foreigners, do you want to open a bank account?

The Slovak Spectator addressed six banks in Slovakia, asking them what documents foreigners need to open an account in a Slovak bank.

Are you a foreigner with plans to settle and work in Slovakia? Do you plan to open an account in a Slovak bank so your employer can send you your paycheck? If so, be prepared for phone calls or personal visits to the banks’ branches.

If you are a Slovak, all you need to set up a bank account is your ID card. Foreigners, however, need to provide far more documents.

Another problem is apart from one, none of the banks publish the conditions on their websites. For banks that do not list their conditions, potential clients should either call the bank's helpline or visit the branch in person.

The banks addressed by The Slovak Spectator confirmed they do not plan to make any changes.
