TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY:
Bazovský, The Photographer - The fine art of Miloš Alexander Bazovský (1899 – 1968) as one of the founders of modern Slovak painting has been introduced in many exhibitions and publications. As a photographic visual artist, he was the first to succeed as a modern artist and modern photographer at the same time. Bazovský was not only interested in traditional rural topics (in this area, he was somehow rougher and more of a documentary counterpart to Karol Plicka), he also focused on a variety of manifestations of modern life-styles: sport, tourism, travelling. He often portrayed his friends, perhaps mostly an artist with a tragic destiny — Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan. Open: Tue – Wed 10:00 – 18:00, Thur 12:00 – 20:00, Fri – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 from Nov 17 until April 15, 2018, Námestie Ľ. Štúra 4. More info: sng.sk.
Architect Friedrich Weinwurm: New Path - The exhibition commemorates the work of Friedrich Weinwurm (1885 – 1942), the most significant representative of the architectural avantgarde in Slovakia. The exhibition introduces the visitor to the ideas and expressive concepts of Weinwurm's work and indirectly asks the question which direction did Slovak architecture take after the tragic historical events and social changes of the Second World War? Open: Tue – Wed 10:00 – 18:00, Thur 12:00 – 20:00, Fri – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until May 20, 2018, Námestie Ľ. Štúra 4. More info: www.sng.sk
The eights - The exhibition project The Eights is unconventionally conceived for the atrium as a series of small exhibitions for the anniversaries of the eights: February 1948, August 1968 and October 1918. The basis of the exhibition is a long, 3-meter high wall - "gallery noticeboard" - on which the visual collages will be rotated according to the anniversaries. The results will be a draft or materialised Pinterest board, a reminder of socialist "noticeboard culture". The collages will consist of artistic materials of various types (paintings, photographs, documents), primarily from the collections of the SNG. The final layout, the conflict of the artworks next to each other, their juxtaposition will speak about the nature of the historical event. Open: Tue – Wed 10:00 – 18:00, Thur 12:00 – 20:00, Fri – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until Dec 31, 2018. More info: www.sng.sk
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN KUNSTHALLE
Tomáš Rafa: The Paradox of Tolerance – The Paradox of Tolerance touches on the themes of nationalism, right-wing extremism and coexistence with minorities, and responds to the contemporary reality of Slovakia and Central Europe. Tomáš Rafa is an artist who focusses on current affairs. His artistic tools are a camera and photographic equipment. In situations where crowds of people are gathering in some particular place, Rafa with his technical requisites boards a train, determined to be present. He lives in constant movement: recording, collecting, archiving and he also organises and publishes on the web. Open: Wed 13:00 – 20:00, Thur – Mon 12:00 – 19:00 until April 15, Námestie SNP 12. More info: www.kunsthallebratislava.sk.
